Hello Jordan,
Currently I am experiencing problems with people trying to download my files using Internet Explorer v7.0.5730.13. Trying to open the file with Windows Explorer it says the archive is invalid or damaged. Opening the file with Total Commander shows the file is double packed. Thus can be unpacked. Strangely enough the file downloads fine with Firefox or with Internet Explorer when you have IE7Pro (IE7Pro - The Ultimate Add-On for Internet Explorer) installed. This is an add-on for IE. Is there something in your code that can solve this issue? Regards, RolandD |

It is possible that something in my code is causing this problem. I'll look into this and figure it out. I'm assuming you are using the 3.0 release series?

Sorry for my late reply but I never received a notification from this thread :-| Anyway, some time has passed and I have a bit more information. Honestly, I am very puzzled at what is happening. First of all the link: Downloads Second, the info: This problem does not happen to all users. Some users get "corrupted" files. I have quoted corrupted because they get a file without zip extension. Adding the zip extension manually solves the issue. The filename is com_csv_improved_0.8rc2.1.zip and the user gets a file named "com_csv_improved_0.8rc2.1". Sometimes when adding the .zip extension and unpack the file, a file with the same name appears without extension. Add the extension again and unpack again then the user gets the files. Some users I suggested to use IE7Pro addon. With this add-on the file was downloaded correctly. Now 1 user I asked to download the file using Docman and he had the same problem. I checked my logfiles and I see that for a download an entry appears as a redirect. Though no abnormality has been found in the logs for the corrupted downloads. I know for a fact that is not a problem only related to ionFiles or my server but I would like to understand what is going on. If ionFiles can help in such cases it would be great. Now I am also curious if other users experience such behavior? I mean over a 1000 downloads for 1 release of my component only a handful have reported this download issue. |

I will run some more tests on my local machine and see if I can replicate the problem. So far I have not been able to. I wonder what IE7 changed that removes the extension or if there is an option to fix this. It seems like others are experiencing it at well:

I'll do some more research and get back to you.

Well I have some more info. The filenames I have use multiple periods (.) in them. Now I changed those to underscores (_) except the one for the extension. A user who has a known issue, tried downloading this file and the result was exactly the same. So the filename does not seem to have an influence on this.

I tested at work on the only machine I have IE7 on and I could replicate your results. I opened the files in a Text-Editor and couldn't see anything amiss. It seems like several other people are having this problem on a wide range of download products. I'll look into this more and see what I can do though.

I am glad you can reproduce it so you have something to work with. When I use the IE7Pro add-on, the files download without a problem. Just let me know if I can help you with something.
