Hi, all!! I'm Peter from the Netherlands. I'm a software developer assigned the task to explore the opportunities of Open Source software for the company I'm working for. I got 25 years of experience in software development and now I'm a newbie again, running into beginners problems with CodeBlocks, wxWidgets and so on. Exploring Open Source is quite a paradigm shift to me. Being used to creating a lot of my building blocks myself, I now feel like kind of a cybertramp searching for useful stuff along the Open Source sites, trying this and that, some things work, most - as it seems - don't. I'm not yet convinced it'll be beneficial to an ol' closed source guy working for a close source company, like me, but it's coming.
Cheers!
Hey peter Laman, welcome to CodeCall. What language do you use to program applications in?
Welcome to CodeCall, Peter!
Welcome to the digital community Code Call. I'm interested in what is actually your current view in this issue of free computer software you were talking about?
By the way, if you're searching for useful material in this field, I would recommend to read a book called "The Cathedral and The Bazaar", written by Eric Steven Raymond.

Like an angel without a sense of mercy.
Hello Peter, Welcome to CodeCall!
Welcome to CodeCall! You may want to explore the Lazerus project (think open source Delphi). On the C++ side there is a book that can help you get the hang of wxWidgets. There are some truly beautiful applications written with it (Audacity is great). Add in the Boost library and you can code most anything for anything.
