I'll probably get IE 8 because it will be the first passable IE implementation provided their pass of Acid 2 is something that has arisen via general standards support as opposed to a specific targeting of the test.

Yes, I've heard M$ are finally trying to bring their web browser closer to the 'real' way pages should be displayed.

Yeah, I mean there are standards! They should follow them. A life with no standards and no rules would be a mess... so is IE

The bad thing is, because IE is so popular, web designers are FORCED to write pages using 'IE HTML' - that is, code that works on IE.

Yeah.. and it's just because IE is installed by default on Windows.

and you can't remove it but you don't really want to i don't think, doesn't windows explorer use IE?

I'm smart enough to get firefox before i do anything on a new computer though. Although my ISP gives a software CD which you have to run to get your email which installs a version of IE customized for their features and i don't think you can choose not to install it. :\ In the process of installing their version of the crap IE, they sign you onto their email list and become allowed to monitor were your going and show their content on pages you go to. :\

anyways IE is awful and I had to use it for my school site and it didn't work the greatest with firefox.

I could swear there was a court case against Microsoft 'forcing' users into using IE by shipping it with Windows. Or maybe not, I can't remember.

There was under the Clinton administration in the US. When Bush came into power it was quickly brushed under the carpet.

Opera are trying to bring a case against them in the EU.

Well, they just can't ship windows without an internet browser....
