We do only have a single "serious" exam in the elementary school here in Denmark, and that's when you're finishing 9th grade (which I'm going to do very soon). When you attend gymnasier (somewhat like american high schools) and universities it's up to each of the school how the exams are, and how many there are.
I know it's much harder in Finland, where you have an exam each year in elementary school, and if you do not pass, you can't make it to next grade. |

Ouch. We do end-of-year exams, too - in fact, in some subjects we have exams after every single topic! For example, in Maths, we have a test for Algebra, Rounding, Ratio, Trigonometry, Circles...
