I have a simple query that nobody seems to know how to answer!

What sort of coding is used to create a betting exchange such as betfair?

I would be very grateful for a response.

It is made in ASP and Javascript.

Most any server-side language could be used. There's probably also a database (any one would work). Of course, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML for the front-end.

Assuming I wanted to set up 1 betting exchange market, how much do you think it would cost to get developed?

If you want a good site, at least a couple thousand dollars.

But you also need to look at this from a legal standpoint. Trying to host any gambling site in the US without registering it is illegal, Jail time illegal. You also need to either encourage or provide a method for restricting access to minors, and several other practices must be followed for it to be legal.

I am not planning to build it in the US and it also won't be for gambling, it is another idea I have.

Any advice on where i could get it built? I.e a development company??

For something of this size, I would recommend using sitepoint.com, which will allow you to setup your project and get bids from hundreds of people and companies that specialize in what your trying to do.
