Default Punkbuster

I wonder how punkbuster works, does it read all the code (in binary or something) before it get's executed.. and as soon as it finds some code that might be used to hack the game, it kicks you? Or it has some sort of algorithm and it does something at runtime.. anyways I'm lost about this subject.

Well regarding games, there are two types of hacks. Memory hacks and d3d hacks. Essentially Punkbuster checks to make sure the memory address related to the game and the d3d functions that work with the game are not hooked by an external program.
