Following on from the distro thread, which is your preferred window manager?
For a list, see here: Window Managers I personally prefer KDE/GNOME as they are practical, although I love the look of the minimalist blackbox etc. - although I couldn't see me using it on a daily basis! Some nice themes on Freshmeat Which do you prefer and why? |

My friend uses enlightenment, but it is too minimalist for me!
Does anybody feel that linux is lagging behind a bit from the GUI point of view - it feels a bit "windows 2000" to me... I know you can hack about with themes etc. but it is a lot of work to get it looking presentable. I think it is about time KDE/GNOME made a big update to keep things "up to date". |

Yes, KDE and Gnome are lagging in the graphic update area. I remember when KDE first came out everyone either loved it or hated it. Those that hated it said "It looks just like windows." With Vista coming out soon it will even be further behind.

I use the beta of fluxbox, but enlightenment is a good one as well. People who only use KDE or Gnome are usually the new people, who havent yet learned how to install new wm.
One warning right now, getting fluxbox beta on ****smalllinux is a PAIN.
