RAW image code / data

Hi

Does anyone know how to obtain and view RAW image code? By RAW I'm talking about the code which is initially captured by a digital camera on board, before the conversion/compression process. I need to be able to obtain the actual 'code' as is, which makes up the main image.

It will probably depend somewhat on the camera and the software that came with it.
