I started with basic about 6 or so years ago, I had found it on a floppy disk my uncle gave me and I was kinda amazed at this But I soon gave up sinse I had no internet connection and no tut's. So 2 or so years later I finally have internet connection and remembered my qbasic attempt and found so tut's about it.. it was like hitting a jackpot!

Anyway, I soon gave up with qbasic and headed to pascal for a few months until reading about some weird yet interesting language called Assembly. From that point it was ASM all along.. I don't really know any other language..apart from php/c#.net that I had to learn for work.

I am not sure to be honest, I can't find it again. I was wrong though after a google search, no one knows for sure, and many believe its a combination of C/C++/Assembly.

You can make GUI's with BASIC, just it's not really that simple. As 'simple' as basic claims to be, it's actually quite hard to learn I find. I tried before, and never really understood it.

Windows being written in BASIC is probably the most ridiculous think I've ever heard. Also 98 was just a shell on top of DOS.
