    Programming Jobs?

Is anyone here employed as a full time programmer of some sort? It could be for anything including websites and such. If so, could you enlighten me on what the chances are of doing something like that professionally for a company? Because the only job I want to have is to be a programmer but I don't really know much about employers and stuff. Also, do they require you to have some insane degree in programming? Because I plan on taking classes and stuff, but not getting a master in computer science or anything.

    Thanks.

I currently work as a software developer for an Engineering firm in Houston, Tx. I do a lot of web application programming. One of the best places to look for experience is to find a smaller software company. One of the best cities for that in Texas is Austin. ( Or so I've heard. ) You can definitely find a job in a number of places as a programmer and no you do not have to have some insane CS degree. I am about to finish up my degree at the University of Houston and I am getting a B.A. in Computer Science: Information Systems. That is basically a CS degree that doesn't require as much Calculus and offers some more business management style classes.

One thing to keep in mind is that while you are perusing a degree it is a good idea to get an internship working with real world code so that you have experience out of the gate. Most programming jobs that I have found want you to have about 1-2 years experience in the real world. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.
