I have learned programming with Pascal, but it was a long time ago. I think that now you will find more free material and dvlp tools choosing something like Java. A good recommandation could be to find material on how to design/architect (object orientated) software before learning a language ;o) When you have a good idea on how to create your classes, programming is "just" a translation.

Borland has turbo versions of C++ and Delphi available now. I've got Turbo Delphi at home and, with a little practice, it seems to be pretty nice. There aren't any good tutorials for the Turbo version, though. It has a funky interface compared to Delphi 5.

So PERL is used in server programming? I might do something with servers when I'm older so I should learn it.

Perl can be. I made a perl program on our Actis (EDI) server that splits idocs. Works like a charm.
