Dear Friends,
I am 30 years old married guy from INDIA. I am really confused and need some sincere advice
from you guys.
I am a Post Graduate in Computers. I have completed MCA (Masters of Computer Applications)
regular in 2003 with 90% marks from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The subjects that I
have read are all theoratical. I have done a little programming during my studies. So it was
obvious, I have never applied for a job in companies as all good companies need programming
skills.
I have started my own computer center by taking loan from banks. Unfortunately the output
from center is almost 0. And now after 5 years i am standing at the same place where I was
when I have started this venture.
I think now its time to shift and to make my carrier. I have decided many times but unable
to choose the line. This is where I need your advice. You can say that I have 0 programming
skills. I have to start from scratch. What should I do so that I can enter the market as
soon as possible. Which option you think is best. I have asked few friends who were my
classmates and are now in good companies. They have told me that it depends on your
interest. But I can't able to decide. I dont know where my interest is. One thing I know
that I cannot develop logics bec my mind is never free. It keeps on thinking one thing or
other.I have done C/C++. I have done pointers etc. in C++. Which way I should go??
1. .NET
2. Java , J2EE
3. Oracle / Database Administrator
4. Linux
5. Unix
6. Networking (MCSE, CCNA)
Kindly advice so that I can start.
With Regards
If you can't do logic I would not recommend programming. That removes #1 and #2. Oracle DB Admin is a fantastic job that pays well. As Oracle is the most used database you will find a multitude of jobs (at least here in the states). Numbers 4 and 5 should be combined. Most Unix or Linux admins can also do the other. When a company hires they generally like both qualities (chances are, if they have a Unix server they have some smaller Linux servers around). As for #6, that is a good job but the pay starts off lower than the others, IMO. The reason is because there are so many network admins.
Thanks for your valuable advice.
Regards
If you want to do programming, start writing programs. The goal isn't always to write a salable program, just to get practice. Try competing in our challenges or getting solutions to various programming challenges on the net. Don't worry so much about getting the "best" or even "right" solution, just get experience making things work.
Many programming challenge websites have posted solutions in various languages, so if you get completely stuck you can see how others solved it.
