You may want to try a few live CDs first, just to get a taste before committing to an install. Knoppix is very popular for that.

Slax is also a very good LiveCD. If you just want a desktop to play some movies and browse the internet, Slax is for you.

42! Wow. I don't have the time, or the patients to install 42 different OS'es. I have Vista and about 3 Linux flavors on 2 HD's. I like to stick with one(for me Fedora) and completely customize and soon master it
. Ubuntu is what I recommend for starters. |
