Worst thing is something like that happened to me a long time ago. There was a modem based connection to a wather-measure device (little antennae like to read wind speed, humidity, etc)
Well, the connect method had a couple of parameters, one being bitrate, we played with a lot of variants of this parameter and other and couldn't make it work, so we went to the function... it was harcocoded... always 19200, always parity, etc...
talk about wanting to kill a lazy coder...
