I see no one has posted in this forum so I will start it!

Who here uses Oracle at work? I see no use as a personal db since it is so expensive.

@dirkfirst: Oracle is a database engine, suitable for commercial use. Oracle the company does many things, and is one of the largest software companies in the world.

I've used a small bit of Oracle at work - and I hated it. Talking with other's in the industry, it seems to be a common refrain.

That being said, if you really want to mess around with it (Oracle DBA's are well compensated), they do have a free personal edition available.

What did you use? There is Oracle Applications and there is Oracle DB. The Applications is a front end to the DB which is horrible. The DB is actually "the best" DB on the market. The CEO of oracle, from time to time, puts out a challenge that claims he will give anyone $3,000,000 if they can beat oracle in any database query.
