MySQL connecting to Sequel Pro

Can someone tell me how i connect MySQL to Sequel Pro on mac
I have installed MySQL succesfully onto my mac but i cant connect the mysql and sequel pro togeather. When i did set the mysql onto the computer, i did only set a root password, no host/username or anything like that. When i try to use Sequel Pro to connect to the Mysql it looks like it was succesful, but when i try to add something to the database it comes up a error that says im not connected.

Moved to database, as no PHP is involved.

use root and your root password to log in to the MySQL server in Sequel Pro then?
root is the administrative username with all rights.

But on the mac, we have 5 users, and then all of them have the same right.

but within the MySQL server, there are a internal setup of usernames, where root is the administrator user.
