ok figured out what my issue was and yes - n00bness at work...

I had already logged into mysql.exe when I was trying to execute the command. I had to back out to the bin directory and then run the command.

up and running (*yay!*)

From inside mysql you can paste the entire contents of the SQL dump. that will also work although I've not tested it.

If you dont want to use the command line, you could always use phpMyAdmin - and for importing large files in which phpMyAdmin cannot handle, you can use BigDump [ BigDump: The Staggered MySQL Dump Importer ]

I was hitting the large file size limitation in phpma and I've been wanting to learn up the cmd line functions anyhoo.

I just found out about BigDump a few weeks ago. I too was trying to import a large sql file, but couldn't figure out the **** command. Then I came across BigDump and it works great. Especially for those who don't have command line access.
