What do you think is the best Linux distribution ?![]()
That's quite a generalized question, and very difficult to give any good answer for since many GNU/Linux distributions are intended for specialized tasks rather than general computing. There are GNU/Linux distributions intended for very low-end computers, penetration testing, media publishing, etc., but what prevents any of them from being "the best"? Under what scale do you make this determination?
In a feeble attempt to answer the question directly, assuming you meant as a general purpose desktop OS... a good place to start is Ubuntu or Mint, and I mean that as a good place to start. Go to DistroWatch and look at all the other distro's that are available. If you ever really get into Linux you'll end up with a dozen + LiveCD's of different distro's anyway.![]()
Wow I changed my sig!
Thanks!![]()
Also, if you say something like "Ubuntu", there are over a dozen sub-flavors of that, including Kubuntu, Mythbuntu, Xubuntu, EEEbuntu, Edubuntu, etc, etc, etc.
Mint is just Ubuntu.

I had installed Ubuntu yesterday!
I'm quite happy with it! Thanks to all!
My wife is planning to start playing with Mandriva.
Mandriva ????What is it?
Mandriva used to be Mandrake. It's a semi-commercial distro. Think of it as being a cross between Redhat and Ubuntu.
ubuntu ... but i don't like the color brown concept.well it can customize completely.
