    Writing an OS

Anyone here has written an OS?

I want to invest three years during college free time to write an OS. Any literature or paper recommendations are needed.

    Thank you, kind regards

I believe writing an OS is a hobby of TkTech's. He'll probably see this thread and respond. He works on Pedigree which is hosted by CodeCall.

The best resources when you're starting out are the OSDev forums and wiki. #osdev on freenode is also quite lively, when you dodge the random bridge troll. See the pedigree link in my signature if you're interested in that. Our first release will be in 16 days, two years after it was started.

Edit: We will be looking for interested members at our release. Matt (pcmattman) is currently doing work on pedigree to prepare for his degree. JamesM's masters also spawned from Pedigree. You may like to help out with Pedigree rather than start from scratch.

No, I won't. There's tons of information on the site and via google. We don't want anyone whose incapable of self-motivation and research.

Perhaps it can give you an idea of the trouble you're about to buy: Linux From Scratch.

I don't think you have a very high level of respect for anyone. I'm very new here, and I'd think twice before acting that way towards an esablished member. Google is law on programming forums. If you can't google, then I hope to god you don't get your degree.

TkTech, your project looks interesting... I'll be stopping by to check it out.
