Question Best [free] Backup tool? - For files & folder, not whole drive...

    Hello

What, in your opinion, is the best free Backup Tool for Windows?

    I'm looking for one which is;

    - Scriptable
    - Can support file sizes over 10GB
    - Has Shadow File Copy or equivalent [eg can copy a database which is in use]
    - Testing of backups can be done through scripts [NTbackup and it's cataloging can't be done via CLI]

Would welcome some recommendations of alternate backup utilities!

    Thanks in advance,

    Panarchy

For backups I usually just copy/paste lol

If you wanted a script I dont see it being hard to code.

More than just a script, as I need Shadow Volume Copy [or equivalent]

shadow copy is normally in paid for products due to the interaction needed with the database I doubt you'd find this sort of enterprise level functionality in free products.

another option is to look at BCV's for your database and back them up as cold data.

ikonia: Hmm... not a bad idea, however, compared to our current setup, it wouldn't be feasible.

I have done a lot of research, but have still not been able to find a viable alternative to NTbackup.

If you are aware of any other free backup tools for the Windows OS, which support Shadow Volume Copy, I'd appreciate the knowledge.

    Thanks in advance,

    Panarchy
