KDE 4.2 good user features ?

    Hey C.C !

I am here to collect opinion from you guys regarding the release of KDE 4.2 and how efficient and good it might be or is. I haven't tried it out however I don't like to bother my own time with such fuss, since I am a total gnome man. However I would really like to understand and know why KDE users tells 4.0 is better than 3.0, then after realizing that they were wrong waiting for the next update. 4.1 better than 4.0, didn't seem so, 4.1.1->4.1.2->4.1.3 will be better than 4.0 etc...
NOW we have 4.2 available, so how do C.C feel about and how does work, workout?

    Thanks in advance !

To be honest, it has been SO long since I've used either KDE or Gnome that I can't really comment. 5 years ago I vastly preferred KDE to Gnome, but that really doesn't mean anything for the current versions.

    What are you using currently?
    Flux
    open?
    enlightenment?
    XFCE?
    EDE?

    Also why

KDE 4.x is a big let down.... Mind you, it looks great and kills Gnome . But the entire environment is slow and uses to many resources, IMO. I prefer and still use KDE 3.5. I've read complaints against it multiple times for this issue but perhaps they addressed this issue with 4.2.

I'm using the custom desktop that ships with the EEE PC 4G. If I were to change, I'd probably use XFCE (I like light desktops that stay out of my way).

I see, so light desktops are the best in your opinion ?

I look at it this way: I tend to prefer my processor to be working on the application at hand, not all the "prettiness" of a desktop. I'm fairly comfortable with command-line, so desktop is even less important to me. All I really want from a desktop is easy access to my programs.

Also, I usually don't run "the latest and greatest" hardware, so anything to lessen the load on my processor is a good thing.

I do not like eye candy nor do I like bloatware. Whenever I tend to run arch, I don't use compiz and the rest of eye candies available due to "I hate them".(Takes too much power out of my laptop.)
