I've spent some reading today on finding a Linux distro, and I'm still undecided on which to use. Below are a few details about what I plan to use it for...does anyone have any preferences on distros....and why?
PC desktop replacement.
I want to do some Image/Video editing
I don't plan on modifying my distro
I do plan on programming/development
I'm a fairly advanced user, but know very little on the Linux system (not affraid to learn).
Any suggestions, comments?
Debian, Slackware, Gentoo i think that are the better distros, but they aren't very simple, if you are noob in the pinguin world, i advice you to using *buntu (ubuntu, kubuntu, xubuntu...).
I don't like Ubuntu much. Give Sabayon a try or even OpenSuse.
go for one that has a live cd (most of them do) to make sure your hardware is supported especially your internet connection and any other devices you use.

Sabayon has too much crapware. Id recommend Ubuntu or Fedora.
Sabayon actually looks decent and isn't trying to emulate Winblows. Also, gnome uses 900mb (Ubuntu default) of memory. I have nothing bad to say against Fedora.
Both Freespire and Mandriva have slid down in many ratings.Look at Sidux instead.
Among those two, if insisted, I'll go for Mandriva.
I use Fedora for video and Audio editing but I also use mac OSX I recommend fedora
