My computer uses Vista and has recently stopped playing sound from flash videos and the system sounds (start up, shutdown, etc...), but is still able to play sound when I listen to a downloaded song, video or play a game. When I perform a test of my speakers it plays that sound successfully. My computer uses a Realtek High Definition Audio Driver, but when I checked its status in the device manager it states that the device is working properly. I'm at a loss for what may be causing this or how to fix it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Have you had any driver/OS updates when this started?
Thanks for responding! I believe I have had some OS updates, since windows automatically downloads those, but I'm not certain what specific updates I've had. I don't believe I've had any driver updates, and when I searched for updates in the device manager it said the driver is up to date.
The only OS updates I've had have been updates for Windows Defender, a windows Junk E-Mail Filter, an Update for Windows Vista for x64, an Update Rollup for ActiveX Killbits for Windows Vista, a Media Center update and a Malicious Software Removal Tool. The loss of sound did not correspond to a windows update, though.
Unfortunately, there's a variety of settings that can kill the sound for certain apps... and I avoid Vista so I can't offer much help.
Fair enough. Thanks for trying! Hopefully someone else will be able to help out.
