Default problem with boot

i've got a problem with boot cds, so every time i try to boot from a cd, after a couple of seconds or minutes (it's random) my computer shuts down. i've been trying to format my C: drive with windows CD, and it kept shuting down, so i've thought it way cd that was broken. later i tried to install linux and the same thing happened.

i've also noticed that when i go from properties of "My computer" to "Hardware device" and then select Properties for my cd-rom it usually gives me an error and shuts donw the "hardware device" progam.

my cd-dvd-rom works perfectly under windows, except for the boot problem. Is it broken or is it some sort of a virus (my AVGfree didnt detect anything)??

wow, that is a tough one. My first suggestion would be to try another boot-cd. If it still reboots try using another cd-rom drive.

Yeah, if you have a spare CD ROM drive laying around, try putting that in and see if it still happens.

Are you able to play normal CDs, like Audio CDs, inside Windows?

yes, under windows it works perfectly, except for one thing (when i open properties of cd-drive form device manager in "my computer"). it plays cds, and dvds without any problems.

Hey, check to see if your CPU is not getting overheated which may be causing the problem, especially if this is a newly built computer, you may have not put enough thermal paste on or too much. Also, if its a prebuilt computer and its old, the paste/pad tends to wear down over time and causes overheating.
