At the moment I have a PC that's about 6 years old, and it's showing it. It needs an upgrade. I'm currently in money-saver mode though so I don't want to spend an awful lot. I've found 4 components that will cost me less than £200 but I want to make sure they're compatible with each other.
Bare in mind I'm not going for top-end quality. I know there's better and faster out there, but that's not the point. It's just a simple upgrade to make my PC experience a little more managable.
Current System:
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ (single core)
ASUS SLI-Premium
GeForce 6800GS
KingMax 2x1 512MB DDR (PC3200)
Possible Upgrade:
Intel Dual-Core E5300 2.60GHz (800FSB)
Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L Intel P31 (Socket 775)*
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB
OCZ Platinum Revision 2 XTC (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4
* A note about the motherboard, one of the comments from someone who bought it said:
"Warning: This board -WILL NOT- boot with 4x 1gb memory sticks of the double-sided type (which is practically all memory around these days) much to my distress. The only other option is to try to find 4x single-sided sticks or stay with 2x double-sided."
With that in mind, is my memory choice OK?
Thanks for reading.
not bad. 2GB is good enough.
First question: What OS are you using?
For some computers, the answer isn't to beef up the hardware, but to lighten the OS. Switching from Windows to Linux can do wonders for a computer.
I was using Windows XP, I never really was keen on Vista and since Windows 7 is around the corner, I'll likely stick with XP until then.
The upgrade thing was taken out of my hands this morning. My computer just gave up the ghost. I'm not at all surprised. I've been having some real issues with it. So I've ordered some stuff and, assuming it'll all fit into my case (please God!) and my hard drive is still functional (please, please God) then I'll do a reformat on Tuesday.
It's not a major upgrade, but when you consider what I was running, it should be a nice little boost in the arm.
Maybe Word won't take forever to load now![]()
I will build you a hobo and budget build
So let's go on !
Newegg(Really a great place, I have to praise Allah for giving the man/woman the idea to create this site !)
Okay...
Not so cool, however this build is a ...junk build. If you want quality you will have to tell me what brands you are after and who you favor the most or it might end up you not liking it. This build is LOL good...![]()
my experience is that XP is more stable than Vista, and it runs much smoother
Windows 7 would be more stable than Vista according to various friends of me, speed is about the same as Vista, so you are right staying with XP for a while
I downgraded my portable from Vista to XP, not because of performance issues, but Vista had some bugs where annoying for me
