C# Programming C# (pronounced C-sharp) is a new object oriented language from Microsoft and is derived from C and C++. It also borrows a lot of concepts from Java too including garbage collection.

If I were you I would go to amazon.com or a local book store and find several beginner books. Then read the first couple of pages and see if you like the author's writing style. I've read technical books where the author could keep my interest and I've *tried* to read books where my mind started wandering within the first chapter. Find an author that works for you.

I'm using Visual Studio 2008 as well. I think they are worth it. Before you buy though, try checking out a local library or something. They helped me quite a bit. I use Microsoft Visual C# .NET Step by Step Version 2003 the most to be honest. It's a pretty thick book, with lots of information. Everything seems to work fine for the most part with Visual C# 2008.

Sams is really good but I'm still trying to find my favorite author. Check out sams books they are really good. There might be better ones, but find an author that you like the best.

I have always found Sams to be simple to understand, yet quite informative.

Ill recommend the book I learnt C# off. BTW i'm not finished reading it. Sams Teach Yourself C# in 21 Days. Come with SharpDevelop, .NET runtime, everything you need to get started in the one book and CD-Rom. They also have a website. I think its great. Explanations are awesome too.
