Nowhere under the low-level computer programming language category. Some are high-level (and as some people say "middle-level") computer programming languages.

Well, personally, I don't categorize languages in high-level and low-level like that. I compare them with each other. A language is high-level compared to one language, and low-level compared to another language. I do think it's possible to find the most low-level language, though, which is Assembly (or better, machine code, but I don't think we can call it a real language), but it's not possible to find the most high-level language.

You personally maybe don't categorize them, but they simply are. It is basically all about the level of data string translation and what does a Homo sapiens and a computer machine hardware understand.

Whether a language is low/high level tends to have more to do with library support and how much direct access to the hardware you have. C is often used for direct hardware access, while Java almost never is, despite their common terse syntax.

And Java is more web, while C is more desktop.

That isn't a rule at all. You can use both concepts for both problem solving.

C/C++ can be used to write CGI programs for serving web-pages, as can Java. Applets are a nice feature of Java, however.
