Default Linux C++ DoEvents?

Is there a function similar to DoEvents in Linux ANSI C++? I'm trying to write a console program and want to have a progress indicator:

Installing: ####### 50%

10 seconds later

Installing: ###################### 100%

But all I see is the 100% when the install is finished. I figure this is because the processor isn't given time to update.

ANSI C++ does not have the concept of an Event. To do programming in C++ with an event model, you need to use a toolkit such as GTK+ or wxWidgets.

Interesting question, can't you just do a loop and get this working? What are you making if you don't mind me asking.
