I'd say try to learn iPhone and Android app dev. It's quite popular these days. On the other side, there is also web development with Ruby, ASP, Django, PHP. I'd advise you to look into that, as the IT field seems to be headed towards web based applications.

And yes, I've developed a couple of games using Allegro. My first one was a simple pong style game. Its relatively easy to make and doesn't use any complex AI or graphical algos. I'd strongly advise you to start there, as its easy while teaching you the basics of game programming.

One important thing. Since you're doing your bachelors in Comp. Sci., it would be better to take a look around you and see what the market is demanding these days. I said that the IT field is moving towards web based applications, but that might not be accurate for the region you live in. Talk around with professionals in the field and see what interests you.

where i live , here there is very high demand of php , .NET , and mostly the web technologies + you talked about iPhone app development , i really want to learn it but sad thing that i don't own a Mac book , and iphone developers here get good pays even if you have zero experience . If you know any way to develop on linux or windows do tell me about it.

Well, I tried once, but sadly, the XCode Dev env. for the iPhone is only available for the Mac. However, I recently attended an iPhone development workshop where they had installed Mac on a Core 2 Duo Intel System. Try searching google for Hackintosh....

i did try that hackintosh thingy , but the problem was that the iso of leopard OS was more then 6gb so there was no way to burn it on a dvd and install it . Other then that , do you think Android will be successful or the iPhone won't let it break the market o.O ?

    Re: what to learn now?

Well, it can go either way. Right now, iPhone is still the stronger amongst the two. However, if given enough marketing by Google, Android may catch up. In any case, it will be the #2 mobile OS for some time. Thats of course until Microsoft releases Windows Mobile 7, which they're saying the will in a year or so

In conclusion, its very complicated... but its best to have a basic understanding of all 3, so that when the time comes, you can move to a specific platform.

One thing I've noticed is that the "hot languages" change rapidly. Not long ago, it was VB6, Java, C++ and ASP. Now it's .NET and Java and PHP. Not far from now, it may actually be Ruby on Rails, F#, and Scala. Learn how to pick up languages fast, and you'll be in good shape.
