No, it's not three ways dude.

You definitely don't start off using a RAD, you need to understand how the code works.

And OpenGL is something you do later on, once you understand the basics of a GUI.

I still use WinAPI, actually. Stubborn as I am, never bothered to try any fancy libraries...

If you are going to code GUIs for Windows.

You learn WinAPI first.

It's up to you at that point. It just depends what exactly you want to do.

You could go the QT or GTK route, or you could go the DirectX or OpenGL route.

I've tried DirX, but only fullscreen...
