Official Copyrights

How much does it cost to officially copyright your site? I read somewhere that just adding a copyright sign down at the bottom of your site is enough to hold up in court if someone steals your stuff, but having an official one is better. How do you get one, anyway?

Not sure how you get an official one but I've always heard the same - adding a copyright to your webpage at the bottom can be used in court.

I should probably do that with my site, except I don't know how to make that copyright sign. That's the only thing holding me back!

I heard somewhere that to get a copyright it cost $60, but for some reason I'm thinking it might also it costs $25. That's for the official copyright, but just putting the copyright symbol is good enough.

$25 sounds about right. You can burn your site onto a CD and send it to the copyright office. That's generally about it.

Well I just put a copyright notice on my site, and after I said "Please don't steal from me." Does that invalidate the notice?

i would take away you saying "please dont stela from me" just because it will make people want to steal. (peoepl are messed like that).

but just a little C , the year, who you are. that's enough.

but, also, print out your code, and mail it to youself. $0.39 copywrite.

Do I understand if you officially want a copyright you have to buy it and that the item copyrighted must be sent in to get the copyright? Wow, no wonder so many sites do not have a copyright

Hey guys, thank you for the information on copyright for web application, but shouldnt you established a company so that the copyright can be based on the company name ?

Cause if the copy right is based on your own name it would be meaningless, say for instance your name is Ben, so you put a copryright of BEN, but there is so many Ben in this world, how are people going to distinguish which ben you are ?

Me too I am thinking alot about creating my own software, creating a copy right is a good thing to do, but how about Licensing, how do you go about creating a software Licensense ?

Then how is patent right different from copy right ?
