    EBay and business

    I've heard of a lot of people creating a living from selling things on Ebay.

    Anyone here sell on Ebay? I sold something once and I didn't but a reserve on it. I had to ship it for $1.....

    I did sell for a bit, but got completely fed up with the fees, my auctions being pulled by VERO, the poor service etc. etc.

    I do not see how people make a living on ebay - they must have a very good product, and a decent supplier!

    I have tried most things to make money online - ebay and wholesaling is near impossible - most things just dont have a margin for the "average joe" purchasing 10 at a time.

    Where the money is made is finding things to buy and sell on, i.e. if you can source a demand for a certain item and there is a supply closeby you can make money. I.e. antiques at flea markets for example.

    Find a niche - then a supplier and provided there is a decent margin you are onto a winner.

    Vero is Ebay's "Verified Rights Owner" scheme introduced because of pressure from manufacturers/designers etc.

    Sounds great in principle, but in practise it means many auctions can get pulled without reason (e.g. the sale of software - if a manufacturer isn't happy with the licensing your listing will be pulled) It doesn't really stop the "bad trade" but keeps the manufacturers happy. It is annoying when auctions get pulled because the manufacturer/company have a suspicion that you are selling something that you shouldn't be - this "suspicion" wastes time. Even after products are sold I've had this!

    I've heard of VERO before but never dealt with it. It sounds like more of a pain than an actual help.

    It is IMO!

    The profits ebay have they should have people moderating auctions better to remove the "crap" that is posted there, rather than launching a poor copyright infringments program.

    Many scams are still pulled off on ebay - selling links, pictures, nulled scripts, pirate dvds, wholesale western union scams - just to mention a few. As long as they get their profits they are happy - the only way they will do something about these is if somebody complains i.e. law enforcement agencies.

    I have seriously thought about establishing a competitor to ebay, but sadly the funds etc. required aren't available to me - I would need venture capital. Interesting thought though.

    Didn't Yahoo have an auction thing once?

    People sell that kind of stuff on Ebay? I wouldn't think links would be illegal though.
    Code:
    for (int i;;) {
       cout << "Smith";
    }

    It isn't, but it clogs up the marketplace with rubbish and the links are passed off as the real product so gullible people bid a lot of money just for a link.

    The links are usually to MLM schemes which are illegal.

    I once bought a DVD off eBay and it was illegally produced, it was the Family Guy movie. I sell some stuff on eBay but not that much.
