I'm thinking about taking out a business loan to start a web-based business - software programming. The money would be spent to buy the IDE (Visual Studio 2005), server space, templates, and advertisement. Is this possible? Has anyone ever taken out a business loan for a website business?
I have never heard of business loans for web-based business..not atleast officially...You will be lucky if u get one on this. But alternatively you can take it for putting up a software development center.
Shouldn't this be in the business and legal forum?
I've never heard of anyone getting a loan for a website but I have seen the commercials for a book that helps you get loans that you do not have to pay back. I'm not sure this is legit or not. Might want to try searching amazon.
Yes, it should be in the business and legal forum. Moved now.
Be very careful taking out loans etc. it is exceptionally easy to get yourself into debt, and if you are looking at loans/venture capital you do not want to have to bankrupt yourself and blacklist yourself for any future projects.
My advice? Set out to invest say $100 in something, one of your projects or a website. Then aim to make say $500. Then once you acheive that, do the same until you hit the money required for the business. It may take a few months or even years but you will be in a much better position.
I wouldn't take a loan on a web business, I've never even heard of someone doing that before. If I were you, I'd use my own money.

I agree with what Dan Said,
I dont know about US, but in my Country (Malaysia), goverment would have a incentive scheme for entrepreuners, they would load entreprenuers money to start up business, sometimes even sponsor, but only for traditional business like manufacturing, but for IT and Software, there is no such incentive in malaysia (or not that I know of).
Dont get your self in debt, you would be stressed out before enven you have your first commision.
