Hey folks, first time here.
I'm starting out as a contract programmer and have been asked to do a project using MS Access as a stand alone application. I think I will probably need to assess the depth of the system that the client has in mind (logging and record keeping) as I think that it may eventually be ported to online access (probably ASP/.NET).
Now I started my programming career in Access/VB/Cobol and am a fan of PHP/MySQL. Never touched ASP in my life though I've played around with Access/VB. How different is ASP/NET to what I already know?
Also, how much should I charge for this project initially, which I think will involve some analysis and development of an information system.
Thanks in advance.
You say you know Access/VB/Cobol - I assume you mean Visual Basic there? You can use Visual Basic to create ASP.NET so there is not much difference.
thanks for the reply, I got a quote from the client so got my questions answered. He was more clued up on it than I was :-)
My second question now is how much does an online information system cost running all the Microsoft software like:
- Microsoft 2003 server
- IIS
- ASP/.NET
- SQL server
Then you have your online information system which will include management of 10 tables and will include functions to query data and produce reports.
What I'm trying to do is calculate how much a Microsoft developed server software will cost overall as compared to one done in PHP.
Thanks again.
