Thread: Makin videos |
Hey,
I have a legal question combined with a practicality question, I guess. First, if I want to create a video for Youtube that has video clips in it, do those video clips have to come from a public domain site (which video clips are copyright-protected, in general? are there any that aren't?)? What I really want is professional sports highlight clips, but I'm not going to pay for them just to make a video to entertain people. Any help is appreciated.
You would probably have to pay them for that.

I do not know how that works. How does youtube allow videos of sports and commercials and anything else? I would think that if you were not profiting directly from the videos that it would be legal. I do not know though.
I think that you need to gain permission, but you may not have to pay for it.
In terms of music, though, I believe that that Copyright "fair use" laws allow for 30 seconds of a song to be played without having to have permission - or something around that time.
I would look into "fair use" and see if there are any guidelines specific for video.
Fair use law is a little more precise. What you are doing with the clip is also important.
