  1. Protection - Pedal to the metal

    by , 07-26-2009 at 03:33 AM
So the other day I fixed up a computer for an absolutely luser, who had no clue what she was doing with it. She had someone else come out previously - and I know this guy as well - hes our electrician . He "fixed" it for her. Hes not such a good electrician either lol. Anyway, she is doing some stuff for our family, so I told her I could fix it up for her as a favor. She wanted her icons to be taken out of the folders they were in (the electrician did this for some strange reason), ...

  2. Why in the hell....

    by , 06-05-2009 at 07:03 AM
Why in the hell would you try using Ubuntu 8.10 in a VirtualBox virtual machine on an old 2003 laptop with a 1.8Ghz processor and 512mb of RAM, especially when the laptop seems to want to explode? FOR THE FUN OF IT OF COURSE Being male and geeky, who doesn't want to try and make the laptop explode... right? Ooook then, moving on.
So I recently done a fresh XP install on the laptop for a couple of reasons - it doesn't have a DVD drive so I didn't want to go through a long and painful procedure ...

  3. Windows 7 Review

    by , 04-02-2009 at 04:34 AM
Windows 7. Microsoft's saviour from the hell called Vista. Is it worth it? Thats what I'll try and answer.

So today I finished downloading the latest leaked build of Windows 7, Build 7068. I thought that I would give it a try in an old laptop I have (Compaq Evo n610c - aka Ancient Machine, 1.8Ghz Pentium 4 M, 512mb ram, and only a CD Drive). My Compaq, however, has a bad hard drive in it, so I didn't have high hopes for it. I booted into Windows Vista (it was a vLite'd version with ...

  4. Linux DOES have viruses

    by , 03-06-2009 at 05:57 AM
How many times have you heard "Linux doesn't have viruses"? Seriously. This is fanboyism to the max. Before I keep rambling on, I want to make 2 things clear - 1) I don't have anything against Linux, except that I have to run it in a virtual machine since no distro has any drivers for any of my modems and 2) Yes, Linux is more secure then Windows in regards to viruses.
There is one simple way that no matter what operating system you use, unless the user is not able to access administrator ...

  5. Apple - no future

    by , 03-05-2009 at 05:19 AM
Apple. Some may same Apple is full of innovation, and in parts I have to agree, in other parts I have to disagree. However I doubt the innovation will continue. How do I reach this conclusion you ask? I was watching the video of the 2007 All Things Digital 5, where Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were doing a joint interview (search for it on youtube and you'll find out what I'm talking about), and throughout the video(s) I realized something - when Steve Jobs was asked questions like what the future ...

  6. A Dip With Linux!

    by , 02-12-2009 at 04:19 AM
So, although being completely Microsoft oriented my whole computing life, as well as being a completely Windows developer, I had never touched the holy grail of the Free Software and Open Source world, Linux. Immediately, even being very techie, it was hard to know what distrubution to get, in the Windows world this is the same as knowing which version of the current OS to get, but on a much larger scale. Every man and their dog in the Linux world has made their own distrubution (almost anyway). ...
