  1. Two weeks til Dual-Core!(EDIT: Four-Core!)

    by , 08-11-2010 at 06:20 AM
I am finally going to get the parts for my computer in about two weeks!
Not to fancy, but a lot better than what I have now!

    It will have a Pentium 4 Dual-Core processor(old, but cheap ), 2GB of RAM(Hopefully), 5.6GHZ total on the processor, and a 500GB hard-drive with 16MB cache!
It will run Linux(Ubuntu) and possibly Windows(if I can find an old license).

  2. Higher education and Me

    by , 08-10-2010 at 10:54 AM
I have been in Electrical Engineering for two years now; due to slacking and no motivation I fell into conditional standing. I have applied for a switch to Computer Science for the september 2010 and it got recently denied due to my grades. I am going into my third year in Electrical Engineering and will try to pull the weight back up to hopefully make the switch or graduate with a higher GPA.

I was always getting away with doing almost no work in high school while getting good grades, ...

  3. Programming Skill Levels

    by , 08-09-2010 at 05:30 PM
One of the things I'm always looking to do is increase my programming skills. What I find interesting is how the focus of that improvement has changed over the years. I'll try to trace through the areas of focus, and why I believe they require a change in perspective for each one.

The most basic level is to learn procedural programming. It doesn't really matter whether it's Java, C, C++, Pascal, or something else, almost everyone is first a procedural programmer. Every method in ...

  4. Has anyone gotten their Google AdSence certificate?

by , 08-07-2010 at 10:13 AM (CodeCall - the Programming Forum)
Took the Fundamental Exam yesterday at Google Certification Program. Beside my past experiences with SEM, I basically read through the material on Google AdWords Learning Center twice and went for it. The questions were generally straight-forward. However, I got stumped by some Video ads questions since I've never used Video ads before. In the end, I passed with 87% (80% to pass).

I will probably study more for the next exam (Search Advertising Advanced Exam) or at least try more ...

  5. I miss my appendix.

    by , 08-07-2010 at 07:50 AM
My tummy hurts. I think it was on Wednesday that it hurt worse though. After a full day of my mother hoping it was anything else, gas, constipation, upset stomach, she finally took me to the hospital. After signing in and all that fun stuff the doctor said, "let there be morphine!" and there was morphine. Anti saw that there was morphine and it was good, so she rested peacefully for the next several hours.

Finally they got me some horribly flavored water with iodine or ...

  6. Linux apps

    by , 08-05-2010 at 05:18 PM
I've just browsed through the menus in Knoppix, and I've found several apps bundled with Linux. Some of them are probably software that very few people have heard of. There's a lot of neat and useful stuff there. In fact just about every mainstream proprietary product has an alternative equivalent preinstalled in most Linux distros. Here are some of them:

GVim: The GUI version of the Vim text editor. It has menu alternatives to commands that have to be entered with the keyboard ...
