Another Day...

Just another morning at the office. I got here at about 6:50am like I normally do. Logged on to my laptop, got some coffee, checked e-mail, and then began coding. I'm currently in the process of translating and updating some of our old asp classic applications into ASP.NET with C#. I do enjoy updating some of these applications because it give me some creative freedom with re-designing them. One of our other developers created a new style sheet (CSS) that really streamlined our applications. Now we just need to go in and apply that style sheet to them all. I do have to say that the new style looks very clean.

Hopefully I'll get this application finished and move on to the next one. I just finished a really large one the other day. Updated a current project to use the new style, and now I have 4 more updates in queue. We'll see how the day goes.

Is anyone else working on anything interesting?

Your day sounds like mine except I don't get in until around 7:30. So far, today, I've fixed one bash script bug, cron time, EDI invoices and have spent about 1 hour digging through the Altiris helpdesk so I can close around 600 tickets automatically using SQL. Working with MSSQL drives me insane. It is painful just to create a backup of a table, especially when the "Back Up" task will not work because of an offline file or filegroup that doesn't exist.

What does the C# ASP app do that you are updating?

I recently updated our "Backups" application that tells our IT group which tapes need to go in and which tapes need to be sent off site. It is basically a glorified GUI that flips a bit in the database. After I got done with that one I re-wrote an application that queries the database for accounting information and then exports the results to a .txt file. I finished that before lunch today.

And yes... SQL does tend to suck it up majorly.

My day can be summed up with one word: meetings.

Yesterday I spent most of the day taking these text files with very inconsistent data and parsing them into an consistent array then into sql.
