having a conversation with a friend i came to some odd thoughts about sanity. here is my slung together theory:

brian youngblood: insanity, in a sense could be described as the morality of that person in some sense disapearing causing everything to feel the same, killing people.. cooking a steak its all the same to them. no happy no sad. to live is to spend time after time expiriencing events that numb the sensees. each heartbreak the feelings of pain lessen. each time dealing with death, it makes it all easier to deal with.
brian youngblood: no matter what action your taking your slowly becoming so comfortable with it that it doesnt effect your emotions
brian youngblood: if we were ti live long enough eventually nothing would be morally wrong nor right from everything being understood as commonplace
brian youngblood: we accept our existance and each and every action taken by man without feeling
brian youngblood: and at that point.. we all go insane
brian youngblood: if everything feels good then i can give a child a balloon, then turn around and kill her without feeling the difference between those two actions
brian youngblood: ten thousand times worse then losing the physical sense of touch.. our loss of morals leaves us leading back to nothing but that of animals
brian youngblood: without emotion there is no driving feeling in your heart. there is no need to protect loved ones becuase you feel nothing from their existance
brian youngblood: in a nutshell im saying by existing we're slowly moving towards complete insanity

I don't think insanity is just classes as having no emotion or little difference between emotions.
It could be the opposite, killing someone could bring you the most joy rather than feeling nothing.
To me, that is also insanity.
our loss of morals leaves us leading back to nothing but that of animals
I believe that animals are moral beings.
in a nutshell im saying by existing we're slowly moving towards complete insanity
Lol well, that's one way to look at it.

OMG edit, I hate you... someone really needs to fix that, I always go to use it and feel the same disappointment each time it doesn't work, lol.

You can also move away from callousness. I experienced a form of insanity a while back: I kept trying to get someone else to like me and feeling bad when it didn't work. There are four aspects to insanity:
    1) you shouldn't expect doing the same thing to have different results
    2) you can't control other people.
    3) you can control yourself
    4) you can't control the past/future.
violate any of them in your thinking, and you will start to have problems.

@winged: wouldnt those aspects be working towards insanity if you became callous to attempting to break each of the rules repeatedly? one could even say you became callous and follow those rules as a result since they are all reality (quite insightful too)

im not saying only about pain. im saying whatever action you take you will eventually get so used to it that it has no emotional response attached

Doing those things hurts yourself, first and foremost.
