yesterday i was extremely excited to take the ZCE certification(php), ive been studying and preparing for it for two months.
i read 3 books, parts of the php manual, and w3schools. i was really happy while studying and learning new stuff, i exposed myself to new fields ive never tried like XML, Streams and web services.
when i decided to take the exam and paid for it i got an email with the rules and stuff, i read them very well and called the test center to verify it because this caught my attention:

 *We ask that you arrive at the test center 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. This will
give you adequate time to complete the necessary sign-in procedures. Please be prepared to show
two (2) forms of personal ID. Both must have your signature, and one of the two must have your photo.
If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for an exam and are refused admission, payments are due for
the exam and delivery fees.

none of my IDs had my signature so i called the test center to see if thats okay, they said yes i only have to bring 2 IDs with my ******* face on it, and so i did yesterday.
actually i had 3 IDs; my government ID, college ID, and a club ID. the big fuckin surprise was that the guy at the test center didnt accept the last 2 IDs because they arnt not "official" or "governmental" , i thought it was one of those before-test-lame-jokes but it wasnt. i kept arguing with him that my college is a governmental and my face is fuckin on it, at this point i was furious, i was cussing in my head so i yelled "get me the manager", an utterly cold bastard showed up and said "how can i help you", we explained the problem but he didnt approve any of the IDs...i kept arguing for 45min till i gave up and stormed out of the building...im so fuckin pissed off, ive never been this angry and the worst thing is that theres no one to blame, even if i went back in time before the exam i wouldnt have collected "official" IDs that work.
the government only gives egyptians one regular ID. only option to get another ID was learning fuckin driving and get a driving license or get a passport that requires me to finish the army service....
fml!
what now?
now i have 3 options:
-learn how to drive and risk other people lives with me on the road
-finishing the army service which might take between 2 months and 3 years
-wait till php6 certification comes out and take it
the good side
its obvious that theres no good or bright side. taking the exam and failing would have been 10 times better than this bull****

lately i had to use ASP.NET after i have dumped it and replaced it with php because i cant use PHP in a college project...and...i actually starting to like it(again).
phew that was a relief, learning PHP was awesome because i learned other stuff beside it like JS and AJAX, i hated ASP.NET because i thought it was too complex for my application and the design view really sucks. but when i used it this week i discovered some features that can be very useful:

MASTER PAGE: the master page idea is simply awesome because it lets you make a unified design for all the pages in your project(unless you choose not to), and you can have more than one master page

JS Editor: its an IDE related feature, you can view the child nodes and attributes of any Element of your page easily, even in situations like ths "document.getElementbyId('object')" when you type "." it shows yuo the attributes

Fast publishing: very useful when you have an ISS installed on other pc, by just 3 clicks you can publish your project on another pc IIS

ODBC connector: by installing this baby on your server you can access any database on your odbc, i dont even use MS sql server. im using mysql with it. which is awesome

things i still think it SUCKS:

Validation Controls: if you havnt heard of them, they are server-side validation that checks asp.net controls for required fields, comparing and regular expressions. i find it really nice WHEN IT WORKS.... it works okay on ie6,ie7 and FF but on opera it doesn't, you can submit an empty form and no validation will occur. plus its SERVER-SIDE and it can be applied on regular HTML input

Design view: on the current project i havnt used it once, it adds rubbish to your code easily and the output on VS design view is really diffrent from even ie7

Price: Really expensive to get an original one for your projects that you want to sell

P.S. im still PHP fan and ill use it in all my other projects

which made me wonder: is studying a programming language better off alone??
i shout YES!, for me programming is personal issue because its like an endless exploration in the jungle stopping for a break wont help me go further. this semester i had to take a java course at college i always hated that language(more than i hate dr.phill) but just like watching dr.phill i had to study java because theres no other option(ads on other channels). i know java is good and everything but its just a personal issue for me, the main point is i spent the last 4 months in a java class that teaches:
1.how to draw a UML
2.coding a UML Class
3.OOP stuff:Polymorphism, over-ridding,over-loading,...etc
4.multi-threading
5.doing an Interface
when i first knew the course content i thought we will take that in one lecture, surprisingly it took over 4 months because of my class mates, which made me write this blog.
conclusion:
do you think studying programming in groups would be better than studying it by yourself??

adding dynamic HTML elements with JS

any web developer will find himself in need to minimize the processing at the server for more effeicient and faster web application, thats why we use the word dynamic; the user recives a page and depending on his decisions the page will generate additional controls and html elements, for example if the user chooses that he lives in the US a listbox with the states will appear to choose from, but if he chooses another country from the list a textbox will appear to write the city that he lives in. the old method was to transfer him to another page depending on what he chooses which will make him visit the server more often and thats the last thing you want.
how to:
-im going to write a tutorial about which will have the code in it, for now i will demonstrate a simple example
lets create a simple list box with options in it:

Code:

	<pre class="bbcode_code"style="height:192px;"> var mylist=document.createElement ('<select>');//creating the element first
mylist.setAttribute ('name','gender');//setting it's attributes with setAttributes
mylist.setAttribute ('id','lb_1');
//creating and appending option no.1
var myoption1= document.createElement("<option>");
myoption1.appendChild(document.createTextNode('male');
mylist.appendChild(myoption1);

var myoption2= document.createElement("<option>");
myoption2.appendChild(document.createTextNode('female');
mylist.appendChild(myoption2);

//now append "mylist" to any place on your HTML body
//can be in a table or a div

the above code shows how to make a listbox on the run, it may seem ineffiecient because of the size, we wrote like ten lines to make one listbox, imagine a complete input form!
thats why you need to make it object oriented, by making functions that takes the attributes of the HTML element
-conclusion:
using dynamic controls have special uses when you need to load a big number of controls, but when dealing with small forms its better off without any JS

before i start lets see what life is, as wikipedia says:

 Life is a characteristic of organisms that exhibit certain biological processes such as chemical reactions or other events that results in a transformation. Living organisms are capable of growth and reproduction, some can communicate and many can adapt to their environment through changes originating internally

so we have some main keywords: biological processes ,transformation, growth, reproduction, communicate and adapt
what im trying to prove is that computers have a life, it may seem ridiculous and outrageous thought, but that's what people said when someone suggested that earth is round. before starting to prove my theory, i want to say that the world is much complicated than we think, not just because we simplified it with our science and math means that they are true. for example imagine two persons a,b: person a thinks that the earth spins around itself because of gravity and the bipolar system, person b thinks that someone keeps pushing the earth with his finger at night while all humans are asleep both will live the same way with the fact that the earth goes round....NONE OF THEM IS TRUE to the other person

so lets start applying the "living" characteristics from above on computers:
1. biological processes:
there's definitely processes in computers inside its electronic circuits
2. transformation and growth:
a computer makes his user buy new hardware and even update it's hardware, if you don't believe take a look on your pc when you first bought it and compare it with it's current state
4. reproduction:
well that's complicated; with the increasing need of computers companies make new pcs much faster and better than the old ones, and in the same time based on the old pcs, so a new pc that comes into the market is an evolution of an old pc
5. communicate:
do i even need to say it. INTERNET and networks
6. adapt:
new pcs now can adapt higher temperatures and high usage
-breathing:
any pc uses electricity which is it's own breathing system
-thinking:
human don't think by themselves, humans look around and learn from their environment then try to act upon these variables for example, humans didn't know that touching fire may harm them until they have touched it or another human told him the info(fire is bad)
same thing applies to computers, a programmer teaches the pc how to behave given variables and instructions. and what about AI!

the only difference that hold pcs from turning into complete living thing, is that they rely on humans , which will vanish with tyhe new AI implementations.

i know all this may sound as gibberish, but just if you think out of the box you will find that the pieces of the puzzles is falling into the right place.

its pretty clear from the title that this log is about the performance of apache on windows versus ubuntu (distribution of linux).

i was exploring the bin folder of apache the other day and i found some .exe s that i havnt used before, one of them was the "ab" ApacheBenchmark; a tool used to benchmark a certain site (localhost or www) by sending multiple requests. and as a new uuntu users i found it funny to try this today on both OSs.

The PHP Script:

the script wasnt very complicated, it just prints a table counting from zero to 200, the document size was small enough.

heres the code:

The Results:

as you expected linux won, but with huge diffrence see for yourself

the diffrence was really big, as you can see the longest request on ubuntu is far shorter than the smallest request on windows. i was so amazed from the results that i had to do the test again on windows without keeping the "explorer.exe" running in the background(which is displayed above)

*

Without PHP

as jordan suggested i benchmarked again with .html files only, i saved the same page with the same size as .html and did the ab on oth windows and ubuntu heres the results

*

on Windows

on ubuntu:

the results:

the results are really funny, not using pp would make the request time much shorter i guess windows is an exception here, the smalles request is exactly the same as before (109), the longest request decreased a little bit.

for ubuntu, the request time almost decreased to half with the shortest request of 12 ms(with php it was 23)

-this might mean that php runs faster on windows (yet apache doesnt)

thats really wierd and confusing

in the past few years ive noticed how much being a programmer is wanted by people, people think that programmers sit on chair all day typing on their keyboard and get paid massive amount of money, and when people watch Hollywood movies and see the elite hacker who clicks "hack CIA" button or opens the cmd and types "steal money" and gets his job done. all that makes people who have no plans or future dreams to follow want to ecome programmer.

"wannabe programmers" is the type of people who you must avoid. you can identify a "wannabe" from this list:

when he/or she asks for help it will look like this "please can you do this for me" instead of "how can i do this"

the type of people who like to brag with having programming books on their pc(even say that they have read it). and they dont even memorize the title of the book

prefer video tutorial that waste 5min doing a 1min task

when they write a VB.NET hello world, they take 1 month rest and say that they are programmers

advanced "wannabe"s try all the programming language basics and syntax, but never get into a specific language

they care about their C.V very much putting all the languages they have "learnt" in big font

they dont do google search on programming issues and wake you up in 2am to ask you how to split a string

complain from a programming language for being case sensitive

they hate OOP

love to bring up the subject of working on an advanced project (splitting a string) when talking with friends

they hate console applications

they dont know when to stop asking for help, they can call you in 5am on how to print the splitted strings

they talk alot even when theres nothing to talk about

they give up so easily

they will deny work if they get paid so little

prefer going out on fridays, instead of sharpening their programming skills

*

belive me this kind of people have no mercy for people like us, they suck your blood and use your help and never give back the favor. if you have seen this pattern in someone stay away from him or advice him to looks for another career

I’ve been thinking about programming from just one side, the good side till one day while working I found out that programming (or computerizing) *makes people spend less time working and do less effort which will one day make the manager think:” why the hell am I paying them, they are just doing few clicks and hitting keys on a keyboard”. This will make employees get paid less and we the programmers or system developers will get paid the money that decreased from their salary on the other hand when you look at what the company do, you will find that the same tasks get done with the same money!
It’s not just a money or business issue, its more social. In my opinion I think computerizing created bigger problems than what we think, problems like: high crime rate, lack of social skills, spreading lies and much more. For example I you want to buy a book you can simple navigate through Amazon, read a review and buy it with you credit card…..but you never think of the wasted chances that you have thrown away, if you walked down the street to your local library, you may have met new people and learned more about your environment.Even when I’m convinced that computer will ruin my life, I’m still sitting here writing a blog its an endless maze--sorry if im not making any sense, but thats how i feel

as a legacy opera browser user* (though im aware that its considerd very slow) *i was playing around with its exrat addons and i've found Opera Dragonfly; its used to view the java scripts and CSS that are behind any web page in a really well formatted and colored text. you can copy java scripts and use them in your own projects *and my favorite part is that you can debug the script and view variables and the changes that occured to it, and here is an example viewing a JS of codecall.net:

when it comes to CSS it views all the available inline styles and classes in a nice view.

this kind of software can improve your skills in writting XHTML and CSS dramatically, you can download *Opera Dragonfly from here*
I spent lots of hard work and time on it , my boss was immpressed and happy till a so-called-coworker clicked on a couple buttons and selected a few check boxes and did my same work in less than 30 minutes which made me really mad and furious.the same thing applies to already created javascript codes, ajax contols. the web is now full of other people work that other people use and that made programming less interesting, fun, hard and challenging. whats the point of writting 30 line of code to sort an array if you can just use something like "sort(arr[20],20);", i get depressed from just knowing that anything ill do theres someone else who done the same thing and maybe better.so is programming turning into a copy-paste day-job!!, if we use other people code why not pay them

I
was sitting in the back of a bus on my way to college, the I started
thinking about a joke I’ve heard in codecall that says “I want to
change the world but they wont give me the source code”.

Then I asked myself what would the source code of the world look like?
Object
oriented theory stroke me hard, people sleep, walk, eat, and process
food the same way , so when they want to wake up the call a function
“wakeup(datetime.now());” and when eat call the function
“eat((foodtype)pizza);” and when we need to learn a new skill we simply
declare the class. But the main difference is that humans and animals
write their own code without debugging.

&nbsp;But the real question is: did programming come from life? Or did life come from programming?&nbsp;
