Making money online

adsense google online money revenue get a life
I see it 100s of times on forums people asking how to make money of their websites or Youtube videos, of course making a little money is something quite good it can be a side earning to your normal job. The thing is many people do not realize making money online (mainly from your website) is actually harder then finding a job (in my opinion anyway). The way to make money from your website is
  • Google Adsense
  • Donations
  • Sell things
Of course you might think Google adsense is a cheap and free solution but if you read my blog post here http://forum.codecal...s-visual-basic/ you will realize how people don't give two fu**s about the ads they see and for every 100,000 people i'd say at least 1-5 have some adblocking software.

So lets break it down from the easiest.

The most easiest way of making money online is sell things on ebay or amazon, yes it can be anything, from your old socks, to that pasta you ate yesterday (just kidding). Of course you will need quality things to sell, and to make profit you will need to get things much cheaper. If you leave things to the very end it is likely that item will depreciate by the time you decide to sell it. So sell it fast and quick, oh and if your selling it on ebay, I say make it a "buy now item" and free delivery everyone loves free sh**!

Now the second solution is simple, make a website and then put ads on it. Well actually it's not that simple. You see Google have set some guidelines on adsense and before you even place ads you need to have a website a quality website which has a meaning behind.

Google is very restricted on adsense;
  • You need to have a quality website
  • it needs to be easy for users to navigate around
  • You are only allowed 3 ads per page
  • DO NOT confuse users with Google ads and your site text
  • DO NOT tell people to click on ads
  • DO NOT place your ads on a adult website
On top of that when you apply for adsense it can take weeks or months, the first process is to submit your site to Google they will review it and if you are successful then you will need a credit card, to verify ownership of that credit card Google will put around £1 in your card, you need to verify online how much Google has put in your account once you have Google will take this money back (no one gives free money). Then your adsense account is setup, no wait! No you then need to earn some money and after that Google will send a letter to your house to vertify your address you get a pin which needs to be entered online. Yes alot of sh** to do for adsense, if your tired now, I suggest you visit job centre!

Now once all that is done your site needs to be quality you need at least 100,000 visitors a month to generate at least £60 in 2-3 months, it is not easy it is hard, you need unique content and Google Search engine will always look for unique and well written stuff. So don't accept to see your site on Google top results within a week. Oh adsense has a threshold amount you need to reach a minimum amount before Google pays out.

The ads vary a lot you might need more than 100,000 people a month I'd say 500,000 because majority of the users are not interested in the ads and if they were you would get something like 30p or less unless it's a Justin Bieber ad then you could get £1.10 or higher.

UPDATE: One of my readers posted a comment saying;

.. and you forgot to mention that you will have to pay the hosting of the website, plus, the domain name, and having to work to get new content all the time to keep the 100 000 visitors, so in the end, you will most likely pay a lots to receive a small amont of money.

Yes I never talked about the domain or hosting to be honest I think now a days domains and hosting do come quite cheap for basic plans, domains can come at £10 a year or may £15 with privacy and hosting can cost around £40 a year so in total around £55 which is cheap. So no you won't be spending more on hosting.

The other thing you can do is set up donations via paypal, I have never done this but people will only donate if you got quality stuff.

Making money online is not easy as people think it is, so if you guys are planning to make money this way or you are planning to make "quick money" I got two easy solutions for you
  • Find a real job
  • Dig for oil!!! :)

100 000 visitors for £60, that is pretty generous... and you forgot to mention that you will have to pay the hosting of the website, plus, the domain name, and having to work to get new content all the time to keep the 100 000 visitors, so in the end, you will most likely pay a lots to receive a small amont of money.

No, domains are quite cheap now a days you can get them for around £10/$10 and hosting is also cheap for around £40 a year. So you can make more money from the ads but you need visitors and an audience.

and where did I mention 100,000 visitors for £60? Impossible it could be impressions but not people!

Great info! I posted a thread earlier about blogging on Codecall. In it, I mentioned the same phenomenon:

Why would I write for CC instead of running my own blog?

Our site is visited by ~300,000 visitors per month from all over the world, so if you like sharing your ideas with tons of people, then this is a great way to get started and get some attention.

In short, if you like to blog for fun and sharing, and have your content read by many people, then find a popular site and contribute to it. Conversely, if you want to make (worthwhile) money, be prepared to work hard and build up your audience (like what Vaielab said).
