I should have notified you all about the last week of events.

The irc server and network was hit by ddos Friday at 4pm. We went down at 5pm and was down until Sunday afternoon. We then had no services until today when the main server finally came back.

Update on future plans:
We are back up on the main server. DDOS was the problem and the isp disabled the network for a long time until the person that owns the network called the isp. Anyways, this morning it came back and its up.

In the future, expect some changes including:
1. nightly backups of files (the main reason for no services on our backup)

2. a backup server hubbed making 2 servers always up and failover will redirect on an outage within 10 minutes. This will increase uptime hopefully.

3. Possibly new services. Mike and I need to discuss this tonight and figure out how we are going to fix the problem of keeping services up on both servers and in sync for when one goes down. We have considered changing services, however are weighing the options of having everyone re-register if we cannot successfully make a move. The main reason for this is, currently if the database is stolen, passwords may not be as secure as we want them to be.

If any changes are made, they will be made with a few days notice on podnet.org's main site and on the server as notices.

The strange thing is, in my case, I tried connecting.. and it failed then after a few seconds I tried again and it worked...
