I think blogging is great - for bloggers.

If the addon updates the blogging services, then it will help with traffic. If traffic is an interest, then from a site point of view, adding it will provide those that want to use it, the opportunity. Finally, if site searches include the blogs, then information that may be posted there, could become another resource.
As you have had some positive responses, I guess you need to consider cost vs the benefits.

I do not take the time to write blogs, but occasionally read them.

Why not try a Joomla blog like MojoBLOG - for free - and see what the actual usage is.

Hello Jordan,

Since you are the owner and admin of site, I believe the call is 100% you. I myself never use a blog as I have no free time on my hands. You need to ask yourself. Will I be using this to help the group? You stated you yourself won't use it. Therefore don't spend the money as it will be a waste and will add to your time.

That is my 2cents anyhow. Two thumbs up so far on your site.

Yes.

I think that a blog would be usefull, especially to newer programmers still in the 'trial-and-error' stage of programming (eg: me ). It would decrease the time taken for answers to be given to programming questions. A blog would cut down the amount of threads there are asking questions about programming like this one.
