I don't know if I'd say "great use", but there are several companies that make a living by producing 3rd party Delphi components. My company uses Delphi almost exclusively. In addition, Lazarus is an open-source cross-platform language that uses the same core (object-Pascal) with it's own component set. Between the two of them, I'd say it's definitely alive and well. Realize that if you can code in C++ or VB, you can pick up Delphi easily.
