Now I'm starting to feel old. I turn 35 in a couple months.

What's the difference between genius and experience? In all seriousness, my math knowledge comes from getting a master's in math (hard to do by 17, yes). My programming knowledge springs from a combination of that (studying logic/set theory in grad school applies directly to programming) and reading programming books.
There's a joke that people my age tend to tell: when I was 18 my parents were stupid, as I got older it's amazing how smart they got. I've learned how much I didn't know when I was 17 (I thought I was a programming god back then, because I was good at Pascal and QuickBasic). Now I know how little I know, even though I've learned more.

How does one compare "smartness?"
I'm comfortable with calculus and the physics of electromagnetism, and I'm sure my parents wouldn't know where to start on even the most simple application. While at the same time, I sure as hell don't know how to raise a child. Does that make them smarter or me smarter? and yes i did know about the hot keys ![]()

There is no way to compare "smartness". You may be smart in Calculus while another may be smart in String Theory. IQ is the best messure we have but it is a very poor method. I think the proper term would be wise, not smart. Parents are wiser than kids.
